Nutella makes this one of the tastiest pizza doughs you'll ever make. Using the bread machine makes it one of the easiest.
This is sure to become one of your favorite pizza dough recipes. It is an ideal dough for a dessert pizza or a breakfast or brunch pizza. This pizza crust isn't too sweet or sugary. It just has a subtle chocolate flavor.
Try making a fruit pizza out of this pizza dough, then drizzling it with chocolate sauce. Or if you really want something extra special (and super rich), mix mascarpone cheese (a rich Italian cream cheese) with cinnamon and sugar and top with a mixture of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.
This pizza crust gets an extra serving of fiber from white whole wheat flour. White whole wheat flour has the exact same nutritional profile as traditional red whole wheat flour; it just comes from an albino strain of wheat. It works well in this pizza crust recipe, because the chocolate hazelnut spread tames the rustic wheat flavor. So if you're making this pizza crust for kids, don't worry. They won't even taste the whole wheat in it.
Look for the chocolate hazelnut spread in the peanut butter section at your local supermarket. Nutella is the most common brand. But Trader Joe's also makes a delicious chocolate hazelnut spread with dark chocolate. And Trader Joe's version of the spread doesn't have any hydrogenated oils in it.
Place ingredients in your bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select the dough cycle. When the cycle is complete. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Place a Turn out the crust onto a lightly floured surfaced. Knead pizza dough several times. Stretch or roll dough out into two 12-inch rounds or one thick 14-inch round. Slide onto a pizza pan (I recommend the Mario Batali pizza pan), pizza stone or rimless cookie sheet. Brush with melted butter. Bake 5 to 7 minutes or until crust is lightly browned. Remove from oven and top as desired.
This recipe makes two 12-inch thin-crust pizzas or one thick 14-inch pizza.
